Here in the middle of July, during the dog days of summer, it’s refreshing to think that autumn is only about two months away. In Kansas City, autumn means the return of Chiefs football, fall festivals around the region, a change in the color of the leaves, baskets of apples at the grocer, and, of course, the Annual Plaza Art Fair.
This year marks the 82nd return of the Plaza Art Fair. It’s a wonderful time to be in Kansas City, when you can witness the streets of the Country Club Plaza transformed into a massive open-air gallery that showcases the talents of hundreds of artists from across the nation. The 2013 Plaza Art Fair runs from Friday the 20th of September to Sunday the 22nd. As always, the event is free to the public, so throngs of visitors will be arriving on the Plaza to walk the streets and view the artworks.
If you’ve never been to the Plaza Art Fair, you’re in for a real treat. There are a couple of things you need to bring to the Country Club Plaza for the Art Fair this year: a friend to stroll with, comfortable walking shoes, a bottle of water, an appetite, a light jacket or sweater, and your wallet.
The Plaza Art Fair is a great date opportunity that only comes once a year. Make plans to whisk your special someone off for an afternoon or evening of walking arm-in-arm around the Plaza. The artwork will be original and varied, so each step will bring into view a new piece for discussion and critique. And since the Plaza Art Fair always takes place at the end of September, the weather can be a bit chilly at times (between 65-75° F), so a jacket or a sweater is always a good thing to bring, along with your comfortable walking shoes. Also, you’ll definitely need your wallet. Chances are, you’ll see something that you just can’t live without. Perhaps it will be a painting for the living room or a sculpture for the foyer.
Looking at art all day can really build up an appetite. Fortunately, the Plaza Art Fair is also a festival of culinary arts. You’ll want to stop in to one of the nearly thirty Plaza restaurants while you’re in the area. In fact, there’ll be so much food, that you’ll probably have a hard time making a decision on where to eat. You may have to try a few dishes at a number of different restaurants. But it’ll all be really yummy!
The Plaza Art Fair is a nationally-recognized event that brings multiple thousands of visitors to the Plaza over the designated weekend. For all the fine food, exciting entertainment, and awesome artwork to be enjoyed at the Plaza Art Fair, there is a little problem with parking in the area during the afternoons and evenings. So, if you want to make the most of the experience with your special someone, you should book a chauffeur-driven limousine ride for the event. Your chauffeur can drop you off at any shop or corner along the Country Club Plaza, meaning that you won’t have to battle any other drivers for a choice parking spot. And you can arrange to be picked up at any time you like. Of course, your limousine driver can also drive you from the Plaza to any one of the fine restaurants, nightclubs, or bars in Kansas City after your Plaza Art Fair experience. Your driver can also make sure that you and your date are delivered back home at the end of the evening. How does that sound for a romantic weekend on the Plaza?
