Traveling to Kansas City for business? Have a little time to kill? Make the most of your layover by visiting one of our iconic restaurants or amazing cultural attractions. The MCI airport is relatively small and extremely easy to navigate, so getting in and out is typically a breeze (we have some construction in progress at the moment that’s creating a little slowdown). So, there’s no reason not to book a Kansas City airport car service and have an enjoyable afternoon in the city. Your best bet for getting around KC and getting back to the airport on time is to reserve a chauffeur-driven luxury sedan. It’s stress-free and much faster than navigating the city on your own. Here are a few destinations to consider if you only have half a day in KC to spare.
The Country Club Plaza. The Plaza is an attractive, hip little shopping and dining district in the heart of Kansas City. It boasts several upscale shops, eateries, and even a small movie theater. It offers excellent shopping—far superior to any airport gift shop—so you can pick up a few gifts for loved ones back home. And you’ll see why Kansas City was recently named America’s Next Great Cocktail City when you step into one of the Plaza’s fine bars and restaurants.
Oklahoma Joes. Joe’s isn’t as preppy as the Plaza restaurants with its rustic décor and its penchant for old time blues. But this is one of the crown jewels of Kansas City’s many barbecue restaurants. (We have more barbecue joints than any other city in the nation.) Celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain named it one of the top thirteen places to eat before you die. You won’t be sorry you dropped in for a quick bite.
Kauffman Stadium. Diehard baseball fans might want to make a stop at the Kaufman Stadium. You don’t always have to purchase tickets in advance to take in a Royals game. This is the perfect time of year to enjoy the outdoors, eat a hot dog, and watch some Major League Baseball.
American Jazz Museum. Jazz lovers from all over the world are drawn to this attraction. It’s the only museum in the country that celebrates the jazz genre and gives props to all of the great musicians who came up in the Kansas City area. If your layover is long enough, you can head on over to the Jazz District to take in a live show.
The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. This Kansas City favorite is perfect for travelers on a timeline. You can take in one or all of its famous exhibits. If it’s nice out, take a stroll on the green and marvel at the gigantic sculptures out front.
Museum at Prairiefire. This brand new museum of natural history celebrates the beauty and complexity of the plains with its state of the art exhibits. The Water: H20=Life feature celebrates the wonders of water in a stunning, interactive exhibit that appeals to all of your senses.
And More! If you have time, do a quick search online to find other great Kansas City destinations. We have more attractions, galleries, restaurants, and live entertainment than we can name. When you’re traveling for business, don’t forget to reserve Kansas City corporate transportation so you can make the most of your layover with the help of a chauffeur-driven luxury sedan.
